K&N Universal X-Treme Clamp-On Filter K&N RX-4750
When I started looking for the right air filter for the EPMiata.Com race car, it wasn't a matter of whether or not I'd find the right one. It was a matter of how many I'd have to try before I found the right one. There was not doubt about going with K&N quality--that was a given. The challenge was sifting through the hundreds and hundreds of custom filters in array of shapes, dimensions, and end-cap styles to find the one that would work best for us.
After a good bit of back-and-forth checking on available space (and no small amount of experience selecting K&N filters, I got lucky and found the perfect one on the first try. The K&N RX-4750 met our requirements ideally. The big 3-inch / 76mm inside diamter flange ensures that we don't restrict airflow going into the throttle body. The filter's outside dimensions fit perfectly into the available space. The end cap not only features additional filter material for maximum flow but also a mounting lug so that a bracket can be fashioned to hold the filter into place. It even has a perfect place to mount the intake air temperature sensor, as seen in Picture #3, below.
Obvious to the most casual observer, this is not a "drop-in" replacement. However, the parts needed to assemble this filter are readily available. A 3" ID 45-degree bend silicone hose, and a short piece of 3" diameter muffler pipe, a few clamps, and you're all set!
