One nice thing about shopping on EPMiata.Com is that we try to keep it simple. We sell what we run on our E-Production Road Race Miata--nothing else. We could list well over a half a dozen different clutches for the Miata and then try to guide you through picking one. We'll leave that to one of our other sites.

Our selection for this car is a Competition Clutch Stage 4, which features a heavy-duty pressure plate and a 6-pad ceramic sprung-hub disc. This is more than adequate to deliver the torque produced by the engine. Further, the sprung-hub design means that we don't have to work so hard to drive the car between the paddock and the false grid.

There are many, many clutch manufacturers out there. In general, all of their products are quite good. All offer increased clamping force and aggressive disc designs. And, in the torque range produced by a 1.8 liter, naturally aspirated engine, none are particularly expensive.

So, why did we go with Competition Clutch? Well, we you are looking for an edge in your racing program, you look for an edge in the manufacturers you select. For us, that edge is Chris Jewell. We've known about Chris's work since he was designing clutches for another large clutch manufacturer. When we left due to "creative differences", we had no doubt that he had the technical ability to make the best clutches available. Now he's at the helm of one of the fastest-growing performance clutch manufacturers in the USA. Way to go, Chris!

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 89-94 1.6l Miata Owners! This clutch WILL work on your car, but not with the stock flywheel. Why would you run a 200mm flywheel when you could run the 225mm flywheel from the 1.8l motor? (Check your rulebook to ensure that is allowed, of course.) We reccommend the Fidanza 161181
